Why your organic traffic is tanking
If SEO isn’t dead—and it’s not—then why is your organic traffic crashing?
Maybe you’re staring at Google Analytics, watching a massive drop, and wondering what the heck happened. You’re not alone. Most companies are seeing 20-40% declines, and AI-driven search tools like Google’s AI Overviews, Perplexity, and ChatGPT are a big reason why.
But that’s not the whole story. Let’s talk about what else is at play.
1. You’re Stuck in Legacy SEO “Growth Hacks”
The old tricks don’t work anymore.
Keyword stuffing? Dead.
Churning out 300-word fluff pieces? Useless.
Pasting AI-generated content straight from the model? Won’t cut it.
Google is smarter. Users are pickier. And AI is accessible to everyone now.
Your traffic isn’t down because SEO is dead. It’s down because the way you’re doing it is outdated.
And let’s be real—hacks are for hacks.
2. You’re Missing from AI Overviews
Google’s AI Overviews are stealing your clicks.
Search for “best CRM for small business” today, and you’ll see an AI-generated answer right at the top. No need to scroll. No need to click.
Semrush reports that 57% of all Google results in 2024 are now zero-click searches. That’s up from 46% in 2022.
More than half your audience is getting their answer without ever visiting your site.
3. Your Content Is Low-Value
Right now, the internet is drowning in content. AI makes it too easy.
HubSpot doubled its blog output from 2023 to 2024. Despite that, they still saw a 75% drop in clicks.
And it’s not just them—everyone’s pumping out content at record speed. Statista counted over 600 million blogs in 2024. That’s not blog posts. That’s entire blogs.
Your SaaS pricing article? It’s drowning in a sea of “who cares.” Standing out is brutal.
4. You’re Targeting the Wrong Keywords
Search intent is shifting fast.
Example: Let’s say searches for “cloud storage” dropped 15% last year, but “how to secure cloud data” jumped 40% in the past few months.
If you’re still optimizing for outdated keywords, you’re losing.
Users aren’t asking “what is X?” anymore. They’re asking “how do I do X?” Your content needs to meet them at the right stage of their search journey.
What’s Next?
Most likely, at least some of this is why your traffic is down.
In my next post/video, I’ll break down how to fix it.
