GHDC: “But LinkedIn is Stupid!”
Misconception #15: LinkedIn is Stupid
Your opinion about LinkedIn is irrelevant. Millions and millions of companies, hiring managers, and plagiaristic, self-indulgent influencer types use it. It is valuable whether you like it or not. Chances are, your hiring manager or a recruiter is going to look you up on LinkedIn the moment they want to look beyond your resume.
LinkedIn is one of the tools of the trade for getting a new job, for finding job applicants, and for connecting professionals. Yes, there are aspects of it that are really, really dumb.
You thought I was going to say something to redeem that last sentence, didn’t you?
Saying “no” to LinkedIn is like saying “no” to a mobile phone. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Did the world get along just fine without it before the iPhone came out? You betcha. Do you need to be on LinkedIn to find a job in 2020? Yes.
So, get yourself sorted, log into LinkedIn (if you can even remember your password or which email address you used to sign up), and get your profile up to date. It’s the easiest way to passively attract employers and recruiters who may want to hire you.
